In 2015, Guyana discovered huge amounts of oil offshore. Since then, the country has become one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, generating over $8 billion from oil by 2025 (Natural Resource Fund Quarterly Report, 2025).But for many people, everyday life hasn’t improved. One report found that 58% of Guyanese still live on less than US$6.85 a day (Chang et al., 2024).The Guyana Oil Problem is this gap between the country’s wealth and the reality people are living in. This project uses data and design to make that gap visible, bringing together information and real voices to help people better understand what’s happening, and start asking questions.
